My family and I were traveling along Spain and it was time for us to spend some time in Granada. This time I decided to stay at a vacation rental and decided to use Roomorama for the first time to find the perfect one for my family. I managed to find one right in the center of the city. After this experience I don’t think that I would ever prefer a hotel over a vacation rental.
I want you to imagine something: you are sitting on a private balcony overlooking an ancient Arab city fortress on one side and the Sierra Nevada mountain range as the sun sets on the other. Sounds amazing right? Well, this is exactly what we were able to experience from our two bedroom apartment in Granada.
Whenever we stay at another vacation rental, I turn further away from the idea of staying in hotels ever again. Being crammed in one room with two beds, a TV and two kids is not appealing to me anymore.
For our recent trip to Spain I planned so that we had between four nights and two weeks in each of the cities we visited, and having a home away from home made all the difference in the world. I really enjoyed being able to chill out in different areas of the apartment without being on top of each other.
I loved being able to come home from a long and exciting day of exploring and having a place where my boys could lie down to watch some TV while I prepared something in the kitchen and my husband took relaxed on the balcony. But the best part was having separate rooms.
I can’t imagine traveling any other way anymore.
Finding a Vacation Rental with Roomorama
Luckily this time I didn’t have a lot of trouble finding the right apartment for my family’s needs. I used a service called Roomorama that has all of the apartments perfectly categorized. With a little bit of research I knew immediately that we needed to be in the heart of the city’s center.
I think of myself as an over-preparer. This means that I always make my reservations way, way in advance. This gives me time to as many questions as I can think of. In this case I was able to speak with the apartment owner, Joao, who had so much patience with me. He responded to every question and even put me on whatsapp so I can have quicker access to him.
When we arrived he was there waiting for us, helping us with everything.
There are tons of differences between a hotel and an apartment and most of them work on favor of apartments. One of the main differences is that you get access to someone helping you to get around. Joao had this taken care of. When we arrived he had tons of maps and everything you need to know in the apartment. There was even a detailed list with address for most necessities.
I also asked for a late check out but this wasn’t possible because he was going to receive other people in the apartment. However he gave us the option to leave our bags (which is really all we needed) in a super secure storage.
Location, Location, Location – The best spot to stay at is at Granada Center.
Now that we have already explored Granada inside and out I can say that the center is the best place to stay at. You might think that staying in El Albacin, which is one of the MOST beautiful areas I have ever visited and an ancient Arab neighborhood is a good idea but it isn’t very convenient for necessities such as supermarkets and restaurants.
And also getting around to other parts of the city makes it quite difficult.
On the other hand, where we stayed was only a ten minute walk from El Abaicin, Sacromonte and Alhambra. These are all uphill walks, so if you prefer buses, they were less than five minutes from our apartment. The more modern, business center part of Granada was also nearby.
A Peek Inside Our Roomorama Apartment
The apartment is on the fourth floor of the building. We had the only apartment with a private balcony and a private rooftop terrace that you can access only through the apartment.
We also had a lovely kitchen, fully stocked with everything you can possibly need. Even my husband – who never ever cooks – was in there. There was also a comfy living room and my favorite place, the balcony looking out onto Plaza Santo Domingo. I spent hours here.
Bottom line, I can’t imagine a better spot to stay in while visiting Granada. And working with Roomorama (this was my first time using them) was so easy. Hannah Lee (part of their staff) was always super quick to respond and helpful.
