From February 6-14, the Emirate of Sharjah will light up nightly in colorful displays during the Sharjah Light Festival.  As part of an annual celebration, the Emirate of Sharjah creates beautiful, eye-catching light displays on government buildings, architecture and pretty much anything else standing across 12 different locations throughout the Emirate – a  kid’s and photographer’s paradise.

Sharjah no longer looks like Sharjah amidst all the colors and light sculptures.  A total transformation takes place, as if Sharjah has been redecorated.  The festival will be held under the vision and leadership of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

The idea behind the Sharjah Light Festival is to shine light on the rich culture and heritage, highlighting the history and monuments throughout the city, and is the first of its kind in the Middle East.  Hundreds of thousands of people make their way to this festival each year.  Imaginations are tested and creativity is sparked.  Sharjah has many cultural events throughout the year, many of which people don’t know about.  The City of Sharjah continues to encourage people to view Sharjah as a tourist destination full of history, culture and pride.  Every year, the event features talented international artists and performers to tell the story of Sharjah’s heritage and architecture. This year, the festival will be celebrated under the theme of Sharjah, the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2014.

HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, said, “For nine glorious nights, the Emirate of Sharjah will wear a new robe of exquisite beauty decorated with the best of oriental art and colours, celebrating Sharjah’s Islamic civilization and the legacy of our ancestors,”- slf.ae.
