Semana Santa: the Most Unique Celebration for the Family

SemanaSantaFew places in the world have something that is so unique you won’t find it any where else. Antigua, Guatemala is one of those places! Every year, during Easter week, there is a celebration that is hard to put down in words.

Imagine, families staying up all night building the most intricate carpets on cobble stoned streets made up from colored saw dust, flowers, food and artifacts. They take sometimes up to 8 hours to build these colorful carpets just in time for the processions to pass over them with music and incense.

This is a holiday you must visit in person!

Marina K. Villatoro is an expat living with her family and traveling in Central America. Guatemala is so much more than the popular Tikal & Antigua.
