Taking your kids to Phuket, Thailand is truly a trip of a lifetime. In order to make sure you have the best trip possible, stay at a family-friendly hotel. Kids and parents alike will enjoy staying at Novotel Phuket Surin Beach resort.
Over spring break, the kids and I visited Phuket, Thailand. I was a little uneasy taking my kids to Asia by myself, but when I got there I realized it was a non issue. I stuck to affordable family-friendly hotels and vetted tours.
Novotel Phuket Surin Beach
The first hotel we stayed at was Novotel Phuket Surin Beach Resort right across the street from Surin Beach. It is an incredibly kid-friendly hotel in a great location. Families have a great time staying there.
Of course, it didn’t hurt that it was right across the street from Surin Beach. This is a quieter beach than many others in Phuket. The hotel provides an umbrella if you go over.
There is also an option to order a picnic from the hotel to take with you. The picnic set includes beach towels and beach mat, 2 choices of soft drinks, 2 choices of bites (salad or sandwich) and 2 choices of potato chips. Picking up a latte from the coffee bar and enjoying a peaceful morning is quite nice. The sun doesn’t rise over this beach, but it is still beautiful. This photo was taken around 6:25 in the morning, thanks to jet lag!
The Kids Will Not Go Hungry!
Another reason to stay at Novotel Surin is the food! Parents can appreciate the Thai cuisine and kids will appreciate the hamburger buffet. Both of these options were available at the same time, which kept everyone in my family happy. I noticed it was working out for others too. The evening buffet changes daily with a different cuisine offered each night. There is also a breakfast buffet available in the morning.
Other food options included ordering food poolside, eating at the sports bar, or the sushi bar. They offered a sushi happy hour each day during lunch.
The lobby has a coffee bar and they seemed able to whip up any type of coffee creation. The lobby was a nice size with a little kids area. Kids could sit and watch TV. I saw a lot of families hanging out in the lobby at times.
Both of the pools were enjoyable. One of the swimming pools had two slides and a swim up bar. The other pool wrapped around offering a feeling of privacy.
The pools and slides were just one of the kid-friendly aspects of Novotel Phuket Surin Beach Resort we appreciated. The free two story kids club for kids ages 4 – 14 was also a nice perk. There were books, movies, video games, toys, and a ball pit for kids to enjoy.
Parents or older siblings have to check the child in or out unless you specify otherwise. The staff adheres to this even when the child begs to leave. I know this because Jonah’s older brother checked him in and left him there. When I found out I went to get him and he was trying hard to convince the gal supervising to let him leave.
There are some activities for kids that cost extra like making pizza and Thai dancing.
Also, near the swimming pools is a ping-pong table and sandbox. The sandbox has lots of sand toys for children to use.
As soon as kids enter their room they will feel at home. They are greeted with character themed beds, stuffed animals, and toys. Each kid even gets a little note with clues of where to find treasure in the room.
Family Suite Amenities
Each suite is 603 square feet and has a private patio. There is a refrigerator in the room and if you ask them, they will stock it for you. There is also coffee, tea, and a kettle to make it with. The bathroom is small and only has a shower. And most importantly for teenagers there is wifi in the room!
What’s in it for Mom?
Two words: Thai Massage!
Directly above the 24 hour fitness center is the In Balance Spa. The spa is not lavish, but it does not matter, because the ladies that work there are phenomenal. If you have never had a Thai massage you are in for an experience. The massage therapist gets on the table and essentially works you over. They might walk on top of you and/or bend you around and stretch you out.
If that sounds like too crazy of an experience, know that there are many other spa options available, including Swedish massage, facials, scrubs, and nail treatments. The best part is they are all affordable. A 90 minute Thai massage costs 800 Baht which is 23.23 USD.
Parents will also enjoy the close proximity to Surin Beach nightlife just a short walk. One of the most famous beach clubs in Phuket is at Surin Beach. Parents can go out because the hotel has childcare available for an additional fee.
Disclosure: Novotel partially hosted my family while we were in Phuket.
