sealions400Lands end is an area at the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula. This spot is where the sea of Cortez meets the Pacific ocean. Jutting out of the water are huge rock formations made of granite. As much as 200 feet tall, these formations are a feast for the eyes.

the archThe most famous is called The Arch. It has become a symbol for Cabo. Tall and majestic, you can watch the water rushing through the archway. These landmarks are only reachable by boat. We hired a glass bottom boat. There are boats for hire everywhere. As you walk along the boardwalk people will call out to you wanting to take you on a ride. You can haggle with them to lower the price and don’t be afraid to walk away. They may call you back but if not, there is another boat to hire steps away. We paid $35 for a family of 5. Definitely recommended.

rocks3Your driver will take you on a tour of the rocks. You will also see lots of sea creatures. We were looking at some fish swimming under our boat when our driver straightened up and said,”Whale!” Before we knew it, we were off chasing a whale. Our driver was fabulous. He got us close and didn’t give up even when all the other boats had gone back. Being that close to a whale was a once in a lifetime experience. Seeing the delight on my children’s faces is something I will never forget.

stingray1We saw stingrays jumping up and down in the water. We didn’t know they liked to jump. My kids loved seeing them and learning about them.

sealion1Nestled in the rock formations, is a sea lion colony. Your driver will take you there and you can hear them calling to each other.

The final stop on the tour is arriving at lovers beach. You will have to jump off the boat here so be prepared for that. Your driver will ask you when you want him to come back for you. We said 2 hours. But we wish we would have said 4. The girls splashed in the water and we soaked up some sun. What a relaxing day. You can rent chairs and umbrellas if you want.

When your day is done, meet your driver to go back. You will need to jump back into the boat. toesinthesandWhich seems daunting but it was fairly easy. There are locals to help you and they will expect a tip.

Taking a glass bottom boat tour was such a fun activity. It is on our list of top 5 things we have done on vacation ever. Don’t miss this activity when in Cabo San Lucas.
