There are many choices when it comes to a tropical vacation with family. When my family plans one, somehow Mexico is never on the list. I don’t know if that’s due to the fact that every time I have been to Mexico, it has been an adult trip or the fact that the majority of Mexican destinations have the reputation for being more into the party scene. Maybe it’s because I felt it wasn’t safe to travel to Mexico.  What ever the excuse, I was wrong.

After 4 days in Mexico at a fairly new resort – the Grand Residences Riviera Cancun – I have completely changed my mind and cannot wait to plan another trip to take my family back to this gorgeous resort.

What makes Grand Residences Riviera Cancun so inviting to families?

Grand Residences Family Suites

DestinationReviewGrand Residences is an all-suites hotel, a boutique actually, with only 103 suites available at the moment (that number will increase soon with more building planned for 2016). Perfect for a large family, the 2- and 3-bedroom suites come with a full kitchen and a washer and dryer. All the suites have a balcony that you can choose a beach front or ocean view, and many come with a private plunge pool or jacuzzi. The rooms are spacious, with plenty of room to spread out in.

Grand Residences Riviera Cancun has a gourmet restaurant, El Faro Grill that GR roomserves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have the Heaven Beach Bar for lunch on the beach, pool-side service and room service available. We found the food the be fresh, unique, and delicious. From a burger and guacamole at lunch to lobster and soufflé at dinner, everything has a beautiful presentation with maximum taste.

Being that the suites come with a partial or full kitchen, it is a nice option to cook in your suites. There is a Market on property that is full stocked with everything you could need to make a nice meal for your family, so you don’t have to plan in advance or even go out for groceries. And for a real nice treat, you can have a chef come to your room to prepare a meal for you.

Grand Residences Family Activities

On our visit, we were there to relax, so the majority of the day was spent at the beach and the gorgeous pool. The beach is “private” (as private as it can be) and maintained by a staff that was up early to clear out the seaweed and rocks. It felt private, as you didn’t have many people walking up & down the beach. It was the peace & serenity the beach offered that truly allowed us to relax. We saw several families playing at the water’s edge and building sand castles together.

Grand Residences Riviera Cancun offers many fun activities throughout the day from aqua fitness, to family bingo, to beach volleyball. They also have 3 pools, tennis courts, and a whole activity room with ping pong and more. While we were there, they offered ceramic painting (for a nominal fee). If you were interested in more cultural tours or water activities, the concierge can help book these activities and even arrange transportation. From what we found, there was always something being offered to do if sitting on the beach is not your style.

Grand Residences Family Amenities

Grand Residences Riviera Cancun has everything you may need for traveling with children – infant bath tubs, diaper genies, bottle sterilizers, and even toys for the beach – all available for no extra charge. They also offer a free Kid’s Club & Teen Club (4-14 years) each day. Activities are based on what ages of children are visiting for the week and parent’s are issued a cell phone when they leave a child, so they can be reached. In the future, parents will be given iPads so they can watch what fun their children are having.

Beyond all that Grand Residences Riviera Cancun offers for families, I found the most compelling reason to stay here was that families were welcomed with open arms. The resort itself is spread out and though it was a full capacity during the time we stayed, you never saw the property “full”. With a 3:1 ratio of staff to guest, service was top notch. Someone was always there to help make your stay as relaxing & unique as possible.

We enjoyed fresh fruit and popsicles on the beach during the day and treats in our rooms at night. Kids get cookies and milk delivered to the room before bedtime. One evening, our room was surprised with a full plate of macrons. I know it was because we were discussing how much we loved them at breakfast and some wonderful staff member picked up on that and surprised us!

It was this type of unique service that makes me feel comfortable to take my family here. In fact, Grand Residences Riviera Cancun was named the #1 Hotel in Riviera Maya on TripAdvisor and has been ever since June 2014.

Grand Residences Riviera Cancun is located 30 minutes south of Cancun right outside of a small fishing town, Puerto Moreles. I believe the remoteness of this resort is what makes is so peaceful and why I would take my family back in a heartbeat. More than the pampering & relaxation, it’s a beautiful resort where we could all make wonderful family memories at.
