Traveling the world is a gift, a luxury, and a blessing that not everyone is able to experience in life. That’s why when we travel as a family we try to do good deeds as a family; it helps the people in the area we travel to and also reinforces the fact that we are so fortunate to be able to travel as we do for our children. In fact, our Traveling Mom founder, Kim Orlando, works very hard to do this with her family as well. On our most recent trip to Beaches Resorts in Turks and Caicos we harnessed our passion to give back to others and supported initiatives by The Sandals Foundation. The Sandals Foundation has 9,000 people that give their time and work to better their cause and mission. When you are traveling to the Caribbean you too can give back to the islands and the people that live there.
Some can be reluctant to donate money to organizations because they are not sure where the money is going. The Sandals Foundation ensures that 100 % of all funds raised by the Sandals Foundation go directly into social development programs benefiting the Caribbean islands and the people that love their home so much. You can reach out to The Sandals Foundation to learn what programs they are currently supporting and choose where to put your funds.
Pack for a Purpose
Packing for a purpose is an easy way to give back to the Caribbean but the benefits last forever. Whether it is a family vacation that is taking you to a Beaches Resort or a honeymoon or couples trip whisking you away to a Sandals property, you can take up to 5 pounds of needed supplies to fulfill program needs. Simply pack your supplies in a backpack like we did and drop them off at the front desk of your resort. Giving back is literally that simple.
Donate your Time
Life is busy and time is precious for all of us, but when you see the eyes of a mother or looking back into yours with gratitude because of what you did for them or their child – well, it puts everything in perspective. Just as your time is valuable to you, it is even more valuable to The Sandals Foundation because through that time you can help make their goals a reality, you make the lives better of the people that live their and improve the quality of life for them and the island.
The most important thing to remember is that doing anything is better than nothing. Connect with the area and the people through the passions you have as a family; giving back when traveling to the Caribbean can enrich the lives of the people that are on the receiving end of your good deeds and also yourselves.
Now that you have planned out how you will give back to the Caribbean when you travel there, it is time to get packing.
