Universal Theme Park Closures
Universal Studios Hollywood has reopened their CityWalk area (which will include free parking for the time being). A reopening date for the theme park has not been set. However, Universal Orlando reopened June 5, 2020. A health alert is running on all or their websites warning that, “Exposure to COVID-19 is an inherent risk in any public location where people are present; we cannot guarantee you will not be exposed during your visit”. Annual pass holders will have their passes extended by the length of the park closure.

Hotel Company Coronavirus Cancellation Policies
Airline Coronavirus Cancellation Policies
Change fees are waived on bookings made from March 3, 2020 through May 31, 2020 for travel up until 12/31/2020. British Airways is automatically offering travel vouchers for canceled flights so be sure to contact them if you are canceling a flight and want it refunded to your original method of payment. Travel vouchers are valid until 4/30/2022.
Cruise Company Coronavirus Policies
- What if coronavirus continues to be a concern when it’s time for my rebooked cruise?

- If I have insurance on my rebooked cruise through your cruise line and coronavirus is still a risk, will it be counted as a “known event?”

If you booked your cruise through a travel agent and have not been contacted by your cruise company about coronavirus changes, check with the agent. Some travelers have reported communication going to their agent.
Cruise company policies
The Avalon Waterways Assurance is open to passengers traveling between March 14 and August 31, 2020. Passengers can request a refund or receive a credit towards a future cruise in the amount paid plus an additional $200 credit. You can use that Letter of Credit on a future cruise departing before December 31, 2022. Read the fine print though. It mentions that you are subject to vacation price increases in 2021 and 2022. With only a bonus $200 credit being offered your best bet may be to cancel for a refund that you can put towards a trip once you know what the true cost will be. You must contact Avalon by June 1st.
Azamara has canceled worldwide sailings. They plan to sail again on August 1, 2020. If you are due to sail with them prior to July 31 they will automatically issue you a Future Cruise Credit for 125% of the cost of your cancelled cruise. You can use this credit on a sailing departing by April 30, 2022. Credits will be generated automatically by May 13 with nothing further for you to do. If you choose to receive a refund (at 100% of the value) you have until December 31, 2021 to request it. It will be processed within 30 days of the request.
Carnival has some of the longest paused operations we’ve seen. Originally they ceased sailings starting March 14. They have canceled all cruises through and including August 31, 2020. In addition:
- No San Francisco sailings in 2020.
- Carnival Sunrise canceled through and including October 19, 2020.
- The Carnival Legend canceled through and including October 30, 2020.
- Carnival Radiance canceled through and including November 1, 2020.
- All Carnival Spirit Alaska, Hawaii, & Trans-Pacific sailings through and including October 6, 2020.
- Carnival Breeze, Carnival Dream, Carnival Elation, Carnival Freedom, Carnival Horizon, Carnival Magic, Carnival Sensation, & Carnival Vista sailings through and including July 31, 2020.
- Carnival Splendor sailings through and including September 17, 2020.
If you are booked on a cruise during the cancelled time period you have the choice of a 100% refund or a 100% future cruise credit with additional bonus onboard credit based on the length of your sailing. You have until December 31, 2020 to decide how to receive your credit. You must rebook with the credit on or before December 31, 2020 to receive the bonus onboard spending.
Celebrity Cruises has suspended operations until July 31, 2020 and plans to resume sailings on August 1, 202o. Cruisers who held passage on a cancelled cruise can either apply for a 100% refund or accept a 125% future cruise credit to be used by December 31, 2021.
Celestyal has suspended cruise operations through June 29, 2020. They have canceled cruises departing from March 14 through June 29, 2020. Guests can select a Future Cruise Credit of 120% to be used on a sailing by 2021 or can elect to receive a 100% refund.
Costa Cruises has suspended sailings on a ship by ship basis. The earliest return to sailing is on July 2, 2020. All refunds are coming in the form of travel vouchers in the name of the primary booking guest. You cannot transfer travel vouchers. Guests must use vouchers within 12 months of issue on a sailing that has a departure by the end November 2021. After originally refusing to refund any money Costa has updated its policy to be more in line with other companies. You can now request a refund or receive a future cruise credit of 125% – 150% of your cruise value depending on when you were due to sail.
Disney Cruise Line will suspend all cruise departures through July 27, 2020. To view a list of impacted sailings go here.
DCL is offering guests with bookings a future cruise credit to be used within 15 months of their original sail date or a full refund. Those who booked directly with Disney Cruise Line and have questions after receiving their email from us should call us at (866) 325-6685 or (407) 566-7797.
Holland America has paused its 14 ship fleet. In addition, Holland America canceled all Alaska cruises, Europe cruises, Canada/New England sailings, and Land+Sea Journeys for 2020. Cruisers can choose to receive a 125% future cruise credit (use by 12/31/2021) and a $250 per person onboard credit OR a full refund of all monies paid to Holland America including taxes, fees, excursions, transfers and amenities.
Please be aware that your selection for a refund vs. future cruise credit MUST be made by June 1st or June 15th (depending on your original cruise date).
Hurtigruten has implemented a risk-free cancellation policy. Read about it here. Sailings are due to resume on June 16, 2020. Alaska departures are paused until mid-July which means MS Roald Amundsen Alaska departures leaving 5/17, 5/31, 6/12, 6/24 and 7/1 are canceled.
They state that they will update all booked guests on any changes that will affect their voyage as soon as possible, and no later than three weeks (21 days) before the scheduled ship’s departure.
Sailings through July 31, 2020 have been canceled. Guests will automatically receive a 125% Future Cruise Credit. Additional items, packages, and travel insurance purchased will also be refunded. If you want a full refund instead you need to contact them by June 3, 2020 to request that refund.
The majority of the fleet will resume operations on August 1, 2020.
After the March 11, 2020 announcement restricting travel between the United States and Europe the company put up this Facebook post saying “stay tuned.” They were one of the last to announce a pause. AmaWaterways paused sailings through July 31, 2020. They are offering a 115% future cruise credit for funds spent on air, land, and sea redeemable on any AmaWaterways river cruise in Africa, Asia or Europe embarking by December 2022. The bonus they are offering that most lines aren’t is the ability to transfer the credit to another party.
