Hey Mickey, you so fine – and especially fine at Chef Mickey’s! The toughest thing about your Disney vacation is making sure your kids meet and greet ALL their favorite Disney character(s), made worse by their need to get these characters to sign their autograph book. In fact, accomplishing that can sometimes seem like a job! Enter in Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, complete with a roaming Disney characters.
Chef Mickey’s is a buffet restaurant serving breakfast and dinner near the Contemporary Resort monorail. I’m the first to cringe at the word buffet, but this is another well presented and tasty Disney dining experience. The dining room is almost as if you’ve entered into the cartoon world. It’s bright and happy with cartoon characters (lots of Mickey Mouse) on the wall. It’s relaxed and roomy.
I breakfasted with my girlfriend and her 2 year-old daughter, and although the 2 year-old is still not sure about those big Disney characters, she did love the concept. Other ages in the room ranged from babies up to pre-teen. Every kid had a smile on their face – and the big kids (those parents) enjoyed watching their kids experience Disney while eating breakfast.
And I have to tell you — the breakfast was pretty tasty – sliced fresh fruit bar; hot oatmeal (not overdone); decent selection cereal selections, and the American breakfast classics that we all love – Mickey Mouse waffles and pancakes with kid toppings, eggs, omelets, and pastries. And lots of coffee!
This is family-friendly dining as the Disney characters, parade through the dining area. Whether yours is multi-generational traveling or immediate family vacation, you’ll all be happy. You’ve got Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck, Goofie…and the list goes on. You don’t have to chase the autographs down, as the characters stop at each table to spend time with each family – no extra charge. All the characters also participate in a napkin-waving parade. The grins on the kids’ faces – priceless!
The dinner spread is equally as delicious with roasted chicken, carved beef, savory sides and kids’ favorites (like mac ‘n’ cheese). Okay, so maybe the buffet won’t win fine dining awards, but it’s pretty good. No buffet is complete without a sundae bar – hello!
As in anything Disney, your dining experience is more than just the menu items; it becomes another Orlando vacation memory. At this restaurant, eating is great, but you skip the long lines at the Disney theme parks to meet your favorite Disney characters up-close-and-personal at Chef Mickey’s, just steps from the monorail at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
