From swimming pools to wine tastings, the Cava Robles RV Resort, by Sun RV Resorts, has all the fun my family could handle for a weekend. In fact, there was so much we didn’t have time to do that I would recommend staying here for several days, a week if you want to also explore the surrounding central California coast.

As someone who travels frequently with our family of five, I’m flabbergasted that more people don’t stay at these ultra luxe RV and cottage rental destinations! The views from our windows were enough to make us want to go back.
What’s So Great about Cava Robles RV Resort?
Cava Robles RV Resort offers glamping in wine country. You can bring your own RV, rent one and have the owner set it up for you or choose one of the campground’s chalet-style vacation rentals.
The largest vacation rental is two bedrooms, with a kitchenette and a two-story glass railing deck. They looked stunning, but they were totally booked for Mother’s Day weekend so I couldn’t get inside to see them. Definitely check availability well ahead of your travel dates.
Campgrounds are made for kids. And Cava Robles, located about 30 minutes from San Luis Obispo at 3800 Golden Hill Road, Paso Robles, is super family friendly. There were a ton of kids riding bikes, walking the trails and playing games in the clubhouse.
The campground comes complete with two pools (yes two), hot tubs, a splash pad, putting greens, outdoor games (like giant chess/checkers, foosball, and Jenga) and on-site wine tasting for the adults.
You don’t want to cook? There’s a restaurant too!
There are golf carts to rent, as well as free wifi and laundry. Right next to the clubhouse, there is a lovely BBQ area with very luxe seating. It is all fenced, so even little kiddos can run around safely.
How to Make RV Camping Easy
Our family stayed in a rented RV from RVshare. What is RVshare? Think Airbnb, but for campers. Just like renting a house from Airbnb, you simply go onto the RVshare website, choose the type and size RV you need, and reserve it. (Read our complete guide to RV rentals before you book.)
The RVshare process just could not be any easier. The best part? We didn’t even have to drive it! The RV owner drove it to the Cava Robles Resort, (many will do this for free within a certain radius), did the check-in at the front desk, drove it to our RV site and hooked everything up.
All we had to do was drive to the campsite. The owner Denton (and here is the link to his RV) walked us through what we needed to know, like how to flush the toilet and turn on the stove, and that was it. If you are new to using an RV, be sure to ask for instructions, as it is a bit different than a house. Our owner even provided bedding, towels, pool towels, spices and cleaning supplies. Each campsite comes with a fire pit and a picnic table.
When our too-short visit was over, we followed the owner’s guidelines for check-out. We emptied the fridge, made sure the dishes were washed, took out the trash and did a quick clean to make sure the RV was in as good shape when we left as it was when we arrived.
We only cooked breakfast in the RV, which made our clean up really fast. After only doing local trips to Disneyland, recently, this was such a fun getaway for our first post-pandemic trip! The drive was only a bit over 4 hours, and as we chose to drive up the coast, it was lovely.
Things to Do at Cava Robles RV Resort
Clubhouse
The clubhouse is the center of activity for the park. It is the main spot where all of the activities take place, including the gorgeous grilling area, outdoor games, the pool, and the bistro.
There were so many activities that it required a cruise director-like schedule of events, which we got when we arrived. Our family loved that we could pick-and-choose fun events.
My kids participated in the scavenger hunt, and the ice cream social ($5 each). The scavenger hunt had the kids looking all over the clubhouse for cluse. It took us about 20 minutes to complete, and the “winners” got to choose a candy prize.
On the weekends the resort offers live music! Sadly with the high winds on our weekend, we didn’t hear any music.
The Pool
There’s a really nice pool that has a huge shallow area for little kids, a splash pad, a hot tub and putting green all within the fence. My kids particularly enjoyed the dumping feature at the splash pad, along with a bevy of little friends.
My husband and I enjoyed watching them play from the hot tub! The pool wasn’t very crowded in early May, and as it was heated it was the perfect temperature.
There also are restrooms with showers right next to the pool. That was very handy for our family, as we had the kids shower there before returning to the RV. With so many of us showering (and with tween hair washing), the RV shower ran out of hot water easily. I think with a smaller family it would be fine.
Fitness Center
We didn’t actually use the wellness center during our trip. There were lots of folks that did! It looked just like a five star resort fitness center. Even the shower/bathrooms were lavish.
It also houses one of the two pools on the property; this one is for lap swimming only.
Farmhouse Bistro
The Farmhouse Bistro restaurant was key for us. We got in late the first night, and didn’t have everything we needed for breakfast. Luckily, the full service restaurant at the clubhouse was perfect.
The kids played chess and foosball while we waited for our breakfast to be prepared. My husband and I shared the breakfast sandwich with bacon (it was fantastic), and the kids were very pleased with the blueberry muffins.
The Farmhouse Bistro also offers some really interesting local wines, and other adult beverages. My husband and I want to try the outstanding bloody Mary bar on our next visit. With a wine tasting later in the day, we just weren’t ready for adult beverages to start the day.
Located next to the pool, we absolutely used the Bistro when the kids were swimming, and we didn’t want to go back to make lunch. I highly recommend the turkey and avocado on ciabatta.
Dog Park
We left our furry friends at home, but adjacent to the welcome center, there is a dog park. Also found at the welcome center are bocce ball courts, a concierge (that we did not use, but will make reservations for you), and a small shop.
There you can pick up any essentials that you may have forgotten, as well as local wares. There were a large variety of protein shakes, some dry grocery goods, as well as s’mores supplies and various camping gear.
Things to do Near Cava Robles RV Resort
For the wine lovers on your trip, Sun Communities (the operator of Cava Robles) offers a shuttle to the nearby wineries, craft beer makers and distilleries, all next to each other in an area called Tin City. For $10 a person, it is easy to skip the drive! It runs on the hour, every hour, and you simply need to check in with the welcome center to use it.
Paso Robles wine country is literally minutes away. We loved the family friendly Fableist Wine Co. Our kiddos ran around exploring the old train cars and the ground while we learned a lot about wine.
Downtown Paso is centered around a large green space. It is full of restaurants, bars and adorable shops in historic buildings. I highly recommend Negranti Creamery for delicious ice cream. The shop even offers vegan ice cream options!
Cava Robles is just 30 minutes from the Pacific Coast of California. For easy day trips, Monterey Bay is not far, and we have some tips for a fun time with the family! Hearst Castle is about 40 miles away, and on my list for our next visit.
