Ciaran Blumenfeld is the founder of Momfluential Media, the designer of Francie Pants and a mom of four kids. She used to dream of a carefree life of travel and adventure that involved backpacks and flying by the seat of her pants. Now she dreams of flying first class to resorts with a spa and kid's camp program so she can finally finish reading a novel. Living in Southern California, Ciaran and her clan spend a lot of time on the beach and at theme parks, enjoying all the west coast has to offer. The perfect getaway is often not very far away. I’ve looked at the Highlander for our family of six, but although you managed to get luggage in for a 3-day trip, there’s no way it would work for 7-10 days, nor for winter survival gear that always takes up space in our Minnesota winters. I don’t think I’d even get a week’s worth of groceries in there!
It’s too bad, because if we ever move from our minivan (which is a Toyota, 8-passenger, with a lot of cargo space) to an SUV, it looks like Chevy Suburban is the only one that will have the seating and cargo capacity we need.
I wish there were more and better options. Thanks for the real-world review.
I have a Suburban and it is a tank to drive around. Plus it doesn’t hold its value. We get around 12 MPG and always have a hard time parking. It is great, tho, for short trips with the kids + friends to ski, overnight etc.
