2013BuickEnclaveWhen I’m taking a road trip comfort is my first priority – especially when I’m rolling to a race. I also like to ride in style. I found the best of both – comfort and style – when I drove a 2013 Buick Enclave from Atlanta to Amelia Island to run the Zooma Florida Half Marathon. This was a quick trip, Renee and I made the five and a half hour trek to Florida on a Friday and came right back after running 13.1 miles on a Saturday. When you spend 11+ hours in a vehicle within a 36-hour period you get very familiar with what you like and what you don’t. Here’s the lowdown:

Spaciousness. This tops my list. This luxury-crossover-SUV has so much space I almost wanted to pick some more people up and have them roll with us. It had great leg room in the front and back rows – yes, I tested them all out. I’m a tall 5’11 and at one point on the ride home I was totally laid out while Renee drove on cruise control.  It has three rows, the back one can go down, and plenty of room for luggage, kids, the family dog or whatever you need to take with you.

OnStar. This isn’t the first time I’ve reviewed a car with OnStar, but it’s the first time we used it the entire trip. It especially came in handy when we wanted to eat – it found us the closest restaurant on our route and got us to the Ritz-Carlton in Amelia Island full and on-time. We also put it to good use on the way back. After traveling the day before and running a half marathon that morning we didn’t want to think about directions to get home – we just wanted it handled for us – and OnStar made it happen.

Style. Just look at it. Its a beautiful SUV inside and out. It’s sophisticated look is one that both my husband and I feel comfortable sporting. It’s a large ride but I didn’t feel intimidated driving it. It handles easily. Its also really smooth. There really isn’t much I don’t like about the Enclave, but if I have to find something it’s that its so smooth you don’t realize how fast you’re going.
