Of all the flavors of ski resorts in Colorado, Beaver Creek in Avon is by far the most decadent. This is your Double Chocolate Espresso Truffle ice cream with a cherry on top. Their tagline is “Not Exactly Roughing It.” You get the point.
This upscale mountain ski destination promises to be the luxury ski vacation of your dreams. The trails are always groomed and the lift lines always short at this lower-trafficked and more exclusive Vail Resort. What other resort serves hot cocoa and freshly groomed corduroy daily at 9:30am and still-warm-from-the-oven chocolate-chip cookies at 3:00pm?
Among the1,831 acres of terrain for beginning to more advanced skier/riders there are three terrain parks as well for those wanting to learn to jib.[youtube url=”http://youtu.be/Gt25__NZQLM”]
As an intermediate snowboarder, I found the blue runs a little more spread out than is to my liking, but, both my husband and I thought many of the green runs were just as challenging as blues at other resorts, so they made up for it. The blue runs likewise sometimes seemed as formidable as blacks – something to keep in mind.
Our five-year-old spent her day perfecting her turns at Children’s Ski School where afterward, she begged to come back again she had so much fun. A group full-day lesson for ages 3-14, including lift ticket and a healthy kid-friendly lunch runs $206. A half-day is $180.
Beaver Creek Village
After a full day on the slopes, you’ll want to cruise down to Beaver Creek Village for Après Ski. You’ll be immediately transported to the Alps in this European-style village as you peruse the many shops and restaurants. We chose Toscanini not just for their delicious gourmet individual pizza selection and wines, but also because of their perfect location next to the outdoor skating rink in the heart of the village. There is plenty of outdoors seating and fire pits next to the rink for those who want to sit even closer.
We toasted to a most memorable family weekend before preparing for our short drive (about three hours) back to Denver in the morning. For those not wishing to make the drive, there are three major airlines offering 10 non-stop flights to Eagle Airport (EGE) from cities around the U.S. If you choose to fly, take advantage of Vail and Beaver Creek’s Fly In Ski Free offer by bringing your boarding pass and Vail Valley lodging confirmation to any Vail or Beaver Creek ticket window and ski out with a complimentary same-day lift ticket!
You can also Ski Free Stay Free. Get a free day of skiing and night of lodging on a variety of package options for the final offer dates of Feb. 25 – March 15 and April 1 – 14. Good for a minimum stay of three to six nights depending on time of season.
