Celebrations can be difficult with dietary restrictions and food allergies. Nevertheless, there is at least one family trip and celebration where no one misses out and everyone can have a magical time – guaranteed. Get ready to have an allergy-friendly experience at Boo Bash at Disney World!
Boo Bash Halloween Celebration at Disney World
Two years in a row we have celebrated Halloween with no allergic reactions and no meltdowns due to being restricted from treats.
When allergies kick in, it is madness at my house. It is even more dramatic when we are traveling. So how do we manage not to worry about food allergens while we travel – and master Halloween magic as well? At our favorite Disney event, of course! We attend Disney’s amazing Boo Bash Halloween event, even with a child with a severe egg allergy.
This special ticket event at Walt Disney World has even more available days to celebrate this year, so you can get your not so spooky time in!
Say Boo to Allergy Worries
My kid knows to head over to Tony’s Town Square Restaurant and reach for a teal bag instead of the character bags cast members hand out to guests so we can all collect candy around the park.
So what is the deal with teal? Teal is the color for food allergy awareness. It’s the key to the allergy-friendly experience at Disney’s Boo Bash for anyone with food allergies.
Yes, adults are included in this sweet opportunity as well. I love that this makes it a no brainer for all of us. Since Halloween is about yummy treats, it might be difficult to navigate and hard compromises might have to be made. But not so with Disney’s Boo Bash and the teal offerings.
If you ask me, teal is the new Halloween orange. Remember that special teal bag my son picked up at the entrance of the park? Well, it signals the cast members handing out treats at the stations to give him a teal token of a piece of candy.
The teal tokens are the “keys to the treats” for those with allergies at the Disney Boo Bash. When you’re done trick or treating, you can exchange these tokens for allergy-friendly treats.
Why Teal Tokens and Bags?
The bags serve as an alert so no one mistakenly hands over off-limits treats to a guest. The tokens make it fun for those that want to “trick or treat” at the park and actually get something in their bags. That said, here is a tip: you don’t need to collect teal tokens to get more treats.
Where to Redeem Teal Tokens
There are two Allergy-Friendly Centers in the park. One is at Liberty Square and the other is on Main Street. We like to stop at the Liberty Square Ticket Office even before we start trick or treating. There we get some allergy-friendly treats to enjoy around the park. Then, on our way out, we stop at Town Square Theater to load up on all the safe treats. Yes, you can take as many as you want.
Yes, my allergic child watched in disbelief at all the candy kids were getting at the candy stations. Those big eyes became even bigger when he saw his very own bags. You read right – bags, plural. There is no shortage of treats for people with allergies. Just a different, safer system.
No Tricks and All the Treats
So what yummy treats are available at the Teal Redeem Stations? Everything from peanut-free, gluten-free and dairy-free to egg-free, soy-free and even sesame-free choices. For example:
- Dark Chocolate Morsels
- Enjoy Life Rice Milk Chocolate Bar
- Enjoy Life Dark Chocolate Bar
- Enjoy Life Mini Double Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Enjoy Life Crunchy Mini Vanilla Honey Graham Cookies
- Gogo Squeeze
- Surf Sweets Jelly Beans
- Surf Sweets Gummy Worms
- Surf Sweets Gummy Bears
- YumEarth Lollipops (cherry, watermelon & strawberry)
- Seed & Fruit – Mountain Mambo
- Rice Chocolate Sun Cups
My son was not interested in any of those. The alternative? There is always a craft kit of a fun Halloween trinket at hand if you choose not to indulge in the allergy-friendly options available.
Tried, Tested and Deliciously Approved
When you pick up your allergy-friendly treats the cast members will not suggest or prepare your treat bags. This is for safety and to ensure there is no cross-contamination in what you take with you.
This extra Disney pixie dust program can also cater to those with celiac disease and even those following a vegan diet. My friend even pointed out that the teal treats could qualify as non-GMO. The bottom line for us is that we can marry Halloween, treats and magic effortlessly. It has been an amazing way to collect beautiful spooky memories sans the worry!
My son’s tip is to enjoy life and stop worrying about allergic reactions while at the Disney Boo Bash because it is basically allergen free for those who follow the teal brick road!
