7 Epic, Must Visit Uptown Columbus, GA Restaurants
We recently enjoyed an 18 day stay in Uptown Columbus, GA while awaiting the US Freestyle Kayaking National Championships. It is absolutely, hands-down, one of our favorite places in the entire country. It is full of adventure and it’s a great place for all of us, from our youngest who is 4 all the way up to my husband, Dan, and me!
While the river is the major draw for our family, the city’s hospitality is incomparable, the shopping is unique, the continuous Spring/Summer free concerts are entertaining, the weather is sunny and hot, and there seems to be a plethora of activities that are free! And, the food? The food is spectacular!

Each and every day, almost all day, we played on the river. We built up quite an appetite by the end of the day. We’d come off the river famished and exhausted; the last thing we wanted to do was cook. Luckily, Uptown Columbus, GA appeared to have a restaurant per night that offered the enticing Kids Eat Free deal … you know, with a family of 14 that makes a huge impact on our budget!
So, without further ado, let me tell you about our 7 favorite Uptown Columbus, GA Dining options.
The Black Cow
Food is a top priority for our family before, during and after a day of adventure. We are totally consumed with the thought of food … ALWAYS! And if your family is anything like mine, they will be starving if they don’t have a protein-rich lunch prior to a day of adventure.
The Black Cow is an acclaimed local restaurant voted Best Burgers by Garden & Guns Magazine. The food is delicious, with burgers like the Bacon Pimento Cheeseburger, and sandwiches such as the Salmon BLT. These folks even make meatloaf taste amazing. And the decor, yeah, I need the decorator’s card! A beautiful mix between modern and rustic.
Mama Goldberg’s Deli is located smack dab in the middle of Uptown Columbus, GA on Broadway, in the heart of the entertainment district. It’s a perfect stop for a quick and delicious lunch, not to mention kids eat free on Mondays!
Mama Goldberg’s serves fresh sandwiches from delish Reubens to veggie subs, soups, salads and more in a totally laid back atmosphere. We ate here with the kids and it was moderately priced. We love that they offer seating outside and, while the portions were not particularly large, the food was good. The one downside is that the kids menu is rather sparse, and small portioned. It is, however, an easy and convenient lunch spot for anyone partaking in any of the epic adventures in Uptown Columbus, GA.
On the way to Holy Family Catholic Church one Sunday morning, Brody was given a Buy One Get One Free coupon for Plucked Up on 1st Ave. You know we couldn’t resist!
Dan and I ditched the kids and had a nice quiet lunch here. It is not cheap – one sandwich and a drink was over $11 – but it was really really good and well worth the price!
As you might have guessed, Plucked Up specializes in all kinds of chicken, every way you like it. Their chicken salad is beyond good. I’ll tell you what, the place was packed, on a Sunday afternoon, so they obviously do some good business and are a local fave. I highly recommend you add Plucked Up to your list of Uptown Columbus, GA Dining Options.
Your Pie was probably my favorite spot. Maybe it’s because I agree wholeheartedly with their slogan, “Pizza isn’t a fad, it’s a way of life.” I just love pizza and consider my family to be connoisseurs of the stuff.
Your Pie is unique because they serve single serving pizzas that you can either customize yourself or choose from one of their specialties. It is then cooked in a brick oven right in front of you. They even have kids sized personal pizzas that come with a side of gelato of your choosing apres dinner. Delicious is a great way to describe it and it won’t break the bank! We ate here on the Kids Eat Free Night and spent a mere $60 for 12 people to eat!
We visited Nonic the first night we arrived and did not bring the kids as it’s more of a bar than a restaurant. We went with a few friends and tried some of their craft beers from their very impressive menu.
From their website, NonicBar.com: “Nonic Bar + Kitchen is a new craft beer bar in downtown Columbus, GA. We have 32 rotating taps featuring flights and multiple pour sizes. We offer a small rotating food menu focusing on shareable dishes.”
Another night we hit Nonic up for a beer and some poutine which I had been craving for some crazy unknown reason. Nonic is a must visit restaurant in Uptown Columbus, GA. Another must!
I’m happy to report you will find exactly ZERO Starbucks in Uptown; instead, there are local joints that offer great coffee and a diverse menu.
To satisfy our much needed caffeine addiction, our GPS sent us to Iron Bank Coffee Shop, located in the old Iron Bank Building in the historic district of Uptown Columbus, GA. The coffee is spectacular, and I can also attest to the their breakfast sandwiches, which are phenomenal.
Iron Bank is a hot spot for locals and visitors alike. With free wifi and comforting air conditioning along with their delicious coffee and menu, it’s easy to see why it made our list of Uptown Columbus, GA Dining Options!
Ride On Smoothie and Juice Bar
Ride On Smoothie and Juice Bar is locally owned by a brother/sister duo in Uptown Columbus, GA. My son Brody and I ran over to grab a few smoothies. I was starting to feel a little under the weather and wanted some fresh, organic, healthy produce in my body as fast as possible.
Not only were the smoothies great tasting and blended well, the service was also great. I asked a ton of questions and every one was answered! And the price was on point for a small, locally owned bar. I was also eager to try their sandwiches and bowls, but unfortunately we ran out of time. I highly recommend this yummy, healthy smoothie and juice bar. Don’t miss it!
