Family vacations are filled with wonderful memories of times spent together.  Capturing these moments through rich photography allows us to take trips down memory lane and relive these moments over and over again. I recently had the chance to try out the new  Panasonic Lumix ZS40 camera at the TravelingMom writers’ retreat and found it to be the perfect camera for capturing those family vacation photos  – here’s why.

The Panasonic Lumix camera is filled with amazing features that make it easy for anyone to take simply stunning photos, regardless of their photography skill level.  These tips will allow you to take the best family photos on your family vacation and maximize the Lumix ZS40.ProductReview

Be Zealous with Zoom

Be sure you zoom in to capture all of your memories regardless of how far away you are!  Featuring an impressive 30x optical zoom lens means you can zoom in on sporting events, nature, and more even at a distance.  The photo above shows where I was standing in Hollywood Studios (left) at our TravelingMom Retreat at Walt Disney World and how close I was able to zoom in while standing in the same location (right).

Embrace Video

Sometimes photos are just not enough, especially when it comes to traveling with your family.  The Panasonic Lumix ZS40 has a Level Shot function that detects a horizontal line in your video to keep it level…even if you accidentally tip the camera.  This feature is so beyond amazing, especially when traveling with children because I never have enough arms to juggle them and my camera.  I love knowing I can be a bit off balance and beautiful videos will still remain.

You can also record high-resolution Full-HD videos in AVCHD Progressive or MPEG-4 format. This results in crisp clean lines that are full of detail and captures quick movements even more clearly.  And be zealous with your zoom in videos as well because this Panasonic camera suppresses the mechanical noises from zooming in and out.  Sound is crystal clear with the Auto Wind Cut function that blocks wind noise and makes human voices stand out.

Be Creative

My absolute favorite thing about the Panasonic Lumix ZS40 is how easily it allows me to take photos that make me look like a creative genius.  Turn the dial on top to the palate which allows you creative control.  Then turn the dial to activate different settings and click away.  Some of my favorites are One Touch Color, Expressive, and Impressive Art. Take photos and go in and edit them afterwards by applying filters on top of each other for some truly spectacular photos.  Experiment with settings in SCN as well to unleash more photography fun!  If you have a shot you want to capture through a window or display, turn on Glass Through, take your photo and then apply desired filters on top of it for stellar photos.   Whatever you do, make sure you utilize Food and Night Scenery!

Love the Live View Finder

Capturing all of your memories on camera is not always easily done especially in challenging weather conditions.  Many cameras feature the large displays on the back of the camera, but the Panasonic Lumix ZS40 combines the best of both worlds as it is equipped with a 0.2-inch Live View Finder.  If the sun is too bright for you to see clearly on the screen panel, simply press the LVF button on the upper left corner and take photos through the view finder.  I used this feature during our SheBuysCars Chevy Drive experience because the clouds were creating glares off of the vehicles. With the LVF, I could capture the photo I wanted with ease!

Be Punctual with the Panasonic Image App

Do you ever look back at family vacation photos and wish you could actually get a family photo with everyone in it?  Someone is always missing unless you find that nice stranger that offers to take your photo together.

That wish comes true with the Panasonic Lumix camera.  Install the Panasonic Image App before your travels, connect your smartphone to the camera via WiFi, and then open the app.  Position the camera where you want it and frame yourself in the shot by watching your position on your smartphone.  When you are all set, say “cheese” and press the shutter button on your smartphone to capture the image.

Connect and Share

Taking great photos is for more than your digital family album! With Wi-Fi connectivity with NFC technology, the ZS40 allows you to capture your favorite moments and share them with ease.  Simply install the Panasonic Image App and connect your camera to a smartphone or tablet by simply placing them near each other and then follow the simple steps. If you have a smartphone that is not compatible with NFC, you can still connect by scanning the QR code that displays on the cameras screen.

The Panasonic Lumix ZS40 combines optical power, creative controls, and complete ease of use in a slim, flat body that is easy to carry.  It truly is the perfect camera for travel of any kind.
