Viva-ing Las Vegas 365 days a year can be a little crazy at times. My husband and I try to get away, just the two of us, at least one time a year. We do tons of date nights all year long, and take advantage of staying on the Strip for an over-nighter every now and then, but I’m talking really getting away. Like to a deserted location, by ourselves, no cell phone access for weeks at a time. OK, awake from that fantasy, and back to reality…more like a 4-5 day trip where we can relax, yet still be close enough to get home if we need to. Cabo San Lucas is a perfect little hop, skip and 3-hour plane flight from Las Vegas. Super easy. And, if you’re anything like me, when we are not with the kiddos, we like to indulge a bit and ejoy ourselves. Here are my Top 5 Splurges in Cabo San Lucas.
Have lunch at The Office on the Beach: The days of partying like Spring Breakers are long gone for us, but we haven’t crossed The Office on the Beach off our list. Nothing is better than enjoying fresh ceviche, tortilla chips and a margarita, with your toes in the sand over looking Lover’s Beach. The Office’s staff is friendly, efficient and professional. Plus, the atmosphere is fun and lively. You get to watch the cruise ships anchor in the harbor, the fishing boats and water taxis cruise by…and my husband’s favorite, bargain with the local vendors! There is always a mariachi band and the Tequilla Cowboy…beware of the shooters! A great place to let loose a bit and have some good times on your vacation.
Book an appointment at the Spa at the One and Only Palmilla: Any spa will do, really, but this is the ultimate splurge, and you are so worth it. Scrubs, wraps, baths, massages…you name it, it’s on their menu. And, if it’s not on the menu, then no problem, they will create it for you. The spa is a subtle, low key serenity retreat. Two small outdoor pools invite you to plunge into cool or heated water surrounded by a garden-esque landscape. Lounge quietly on the chaises until they whisk you away to your private villa where you will experience pure heaven. Massage treatments are also available poolside in the privacy of an outdoor cabana.
Dinner at the Market by Jean Georges at the One and Only Palmilla: The Market restaurant is located at the Palmilla, and is owned by world renowned, Michelin starred Chef, Jean-Georges. The restaurant itself is in an enclosed space, with large windows so you don’t miss a minute of the full moon shining on the black ocean below. The bar and lounge are beautifully set in an open-air space, lit with candles, with live music playing softly in the background. The seafood selections were scrumptious, and if you travel or live in a city where there is a Jean-Georges restaurant, like Jean Georges Steakhouse at Aria Las Vegas, it will be nice to reminisce about your trip to Cabo as you enjoy some of the shared menu items like their Crème Brulee Frois Gras or Ginger Margaritas.
Deep Sea Fishing/Whale Watching on the Great Escape Cabo: I indulge my husband in this activity at least once while I’m in Cabo. It is his favorite thing to do, he would fish the whole time we were there if I let him. I have to admit though, being able to go Deep Sea Fishing on the Great Escape, is quite a treat. The Captain and staff are quite friendly, they speak English, and know what amenities to provide to make it a worth-while excursion. The boat itself is roomy with three bedrooms, a bathroom, and a small living area with comfortable seating and kitchen capabilities. You don’t have to fish to enjoy the Great Escape. There are plenty of activities like snorkeling, whale watching or just cruising, and they can tailor a day on the sea just for you.
Sushi at Arts and Sushi: Take your fresh catch directly to a little off the beaten path spot on the harbor called Arts and Sushi. The friendly staff and their awesome chef will prepare your fish into many tantalizing sushi dishes for you to indulge in that night. Let me tell you, there is absolutely nothing like eating sushi created by the fish you caught that day. Plus, Arts and Sushi features local artists work around the restaurant, or you can sit outside and enjoy the views of the harbor or people watch…which may be more entertaining! The cool guys at The Great Escape can help you out with getting your fresh fish over to Arts and Sushi. Located at Blvd. Lazaro Cardenas, Cabo San Lucas 23450, Mexico
