5 Must Have Items When Renting A Convertible

conver400My husband and I always love to rent really cool cars while vacationing somewhere warm - specifically convertibles. There’s just something about having the wind in your hair! As a traveler, you need to be sure that you are prepared to spend the day riding around with the top down.

Here are 5 items that you will need to stay fashionable while on vacation

1. Moisturizer with SPF

If you plan on spending a significant time in sun, be sure to protect your skin by using a moisturizer with SPF built in. Driving around for hours can cause major damage to your face... and we all know that excess exposure to the sun can lead to premature wrinkles and more. Try not to purchase a moisturizer with less than SPF 15. Apply at least 20 minutes before heading out to ensure the lotion has dried and set. This beauty must have tip naturally goes for body sunscreen as well. (Image: Sephora Collection: Flawless Moisturizing Lotion SPF 15)

2. A Small Cardigan

It gets cold with the windows down while driving in a convertible! Believe me, I know. And I don’t care that you are vacationing on a tropical island. You will need to have a nice cardigan in your bag at all times. Besides using it for your long, relaxing rides, you will also whip that puppy out during meals and in-house tours. Personally, I would go for a neutral colored cardigan. That way, you can reuse the sweater for the entire length of you stay without it being too obvious in your photos.

3. Sunglasses

Have you checked out Jessica Simpson’s line of accessories? I’m obsessed! The prices are reasonable and the styles are right on trend. For your convertible ride, you will absolutely need a great pair of sunglasses. Squinting as you attempt to see the sights isn’t ideal. Oh and don’t forget to bring along the case! The last thing you need is to scratch the lenses while you stash them in your bag.

4. A Summer Scarf

Ok ladies - I’m half joking with this one. I’ve never personally whipped out a summer scarf during a convertible ride, but don’t you just love it when it happens in the movies? Follow Jessica Alba’s style and consider shopping for a fab summer scarf. Be bold with your pattern / color choices. Accessories are the easiest way to step out of your comfort zone without looking like you’re part of an Andy Warhol painting.

5. Straw Hat

Last but not least, in order to look your fashionable best while riding a convertible, consider bringing along a straw hat. You hair is going to get messy. Real messy. You can certainly place it in a bun before hitting the road, but I have hair that won’t place nice after doing something like that. A straw hat will hide any issues the wind causes. After your ride is over, you will be able to enjoy the rest of the day without being self conscious about your messed up hairdo.

Are you planning on renting a convertible during your next vacation? It’s like no other ride!

This makes me want to rent a convertible on our next trip. Great tips! I will never forget a trip I took to visit a college with my dad. We landed in New Orleans and he surprised me with renting a convertible. We had so much fun cruising the causeways in that thing!
