Free for Military: Blue Star Museums

Military TravelingMom
Free admission to museums nationwide for military and their families.
military-discountFor all our military readers out there I wanted to make sure that you had heard about the Blue Star Museums initiative.  Basically all military personnel and their family can get into any of these 600+ museums all over the nation for free until the end of this summer; Labor Day September 6, 2010. The active duty member does not have to be present for the spouse and kids to get in free.  What's even better is that some of these are children's museums!

I have only gotten to go to one museum so far this summer that was involved in this,
Seward House in Auburn, NY.  I just showed my military id and my kids and I got in free no questions asked.

This week we are planning on going to a few more including Ellen Noel Art Museum and Museum of the Southwest.

Here are some museums I think sound interesting:
National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Also known as the National Cowboy Museum, it is currently hosting the Prix de West, an invitational art exhibit of more than 300 Western paintings and sculpture by contemporary artists.

Museum of Space History in Alamogordo, New Mexico, contains exhibitions on the original rocket scientist, Robert Goddard, and a mock-up of the International Space Station.

The Chinese American Museum in Los Angeles, California.  Housed in the last surviving building in the City's original Chinatown, the museum shares the history and continuing contributions of Chinese Americans through exhibits and educational programs.  Currently showing, Hollywood Chinese: The Arthur Dong Collection, an assortment of movie memorabilia with vivid examples of how the Chinese have been imagined in the movies during the last century.
