I leave in 24 hours for my first-ever family cruise on Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas and I am totally overwhelmed by all of the activity choices, the fear of not knowing where my kids are and of wasting valuable relaxation time planning. Where do I start? What are the DO NOT MISS items aboard the Oasis? Thanks for your help.

First of all, remember you are on VACATION! Yep, that's time away from the hustle and bustle of daytimers. ;-) Really! Don’t worry about keeping busy every minute—staying flexible allows for spontaneous fun, and offers ample opportunity for quiet time.
Secondly, you don't have to make ALL the decisions. Ask for input from your family members. Of course, this can also get interesting as Sally might just want to play in the pool; your teenager Johnny prefers off-shore adventures; and Dad wants to play golf. However, you should at least get their input, because it IS their vacation too! This is an excellent time to sit around the table and get excited about your upcoming trip! From those comments, you actually might be surprised at several activities that come to the top of the list for everyone.
Thirdly, don't plan EVERYTHING. Allow for "me" time for everyone. Everyone appreciates quiet moments away from the rest of the family from time to time.
Finally, getting together with family is going to be the way it always is—which is sometimes messy and aggravating. Remind everyone that while it may not be their ideal of a dream vacation, a family trip is an important once-in-a-lifet ime memory in the making. Let go of your expectations, go with the flow, and enjoy the moment.
Oh -- one more finally, HAVE FUN! Relax and enjoy each minute with your family. Take your camera, your video recorder, and just have fun!
They will give you a daily planner that will list everything going on the next day. Just look it over and circle the things that seem interesting.
If you're like me, chances are you'll be so happy sitting in a deck chair reading a book while the kids splash in the pool that you will miss more events than you plan.
But that's OK too. It's why I love cruising as a family--you can do as little or as much as you want to do.
Have a great time!
Please know that Royal Caribbean does not mess around with child safety. Each child will wear a wristband for the duration of the cruise. If you want to pay an addional fee, you can take advantage of Royal Connect.
Royal Connect is an on-board phone system. In addition to texting, and shipboard calling, it can act as a tracking devise that responds to a chip inside the wristband on your child. No need to worry where your child is among the ship's 16 decks with Royal Connect.
Pack your bathing suits into a caryon bag that you will walk onto the ship with. That way, you can enjoy the pools while waiting for your bags to show up at your cabin.
Let us know how it goes.
