riding a bull stockyards You can don those cowboy boots and do some two stepping or kick back with your feet up while sipping a margarita. Your choice. Fort Worth has it all with a small town welcoming spirit to boot. But no matter how you choose to spend your time in Fort Worth, you absolutely cannot miss The Stockyards.

The Fort Worth Stockyards

This historic district is mainly shops and restaurants that pay homage to the cattle drive history preserved here. Twice daily you can see a cattle drive just as it was in the late 1800’s. There is no cost to view the cattle drive but be sure to arrive a bit early on a busy day so the little ones can see. The drives start at 11:30 am and 4:30 pm. Before or after the drive you can visit the stables and meet the Longhorn herd. Check out the Fort Worth website before you go so that the kids can learn their names. It would be fun for them to try to identify their favorites!

If you get hungry for some Texas BBQ while in The Stockyards, stop by Riscky’s for some all you can eat ribs. The dry rub ribs were a hit for us and at $9.95 it leaves you plenty of money for a drink or two over at Billy Bob’s. Billed as the world’s largest honkey tonk, this place is not to be missed. Old country songs, wooden dance floors and pool tables will make you feel like you just walked into a movie scene of a country bar. You did. Several movies have been shot at Billy Bobs as well as a few episodes of the original Dallas series.
