Scenic Chattanooga, Tennessee, may be best known for Lookout Mountain. But attractions there can be rather pricey. Luckily, there are other ways to have free fun in this southern city.

1. The seasonal Chattanooga Market, open Saturdays in the Tennessee Aquarium Plaza 10-5pm, mid-March through Labor Day weekend and Sundays at the First Tennessee Pavilion 11-4pm, April 21 through December 2nd provides hours of weekend family fun.

Both markets have free live music and local arts and culture.  You don’t have to buy anything, but you can get inexpensive food for a picnic or snack.

2. There is a free Nightfall Music Series, May- September, downtown. Concerts are held Fridays from 7 -10 p.m. at Miller Plaza’s River City Stage. You can bring food and lawn chairs and have a picnic. The free family-freindly events are smoke free.

3. Saturday nights have families heading to the free Riverfront Night Summer Music Series, August-September. The concert series, nights at Ross Landing, includes local vendors offering information on sustainability and healthy lifestyles.
