Spring Break in the South

by

pensacolaIt is time to finalize spring break plans!  Our own spring break isn’t until the end of April, but spring break begins early in the South with many travelers beginning their vacations as early as the end of February.  Here are a few of my picks for spring break destinations in the South!

Pensacola, Florida – I can’t help but love my little city and I highly recommend a visit!  We have the Naval Aviation Museum, beautiful beaches, lovely restaurants, and plenty of hiking trails.

Point Clear, Alabama – We stayed a weekend at the Grand Hotel Point Clear Resort several years ago and had a wonderful time.   They offer sunset sails and beautiful pools.  While you are staying in Point Clear, take a drive to Bellingrath Gardens or wander around the little shops in Fairhope, AL.

St. Augustine, Florida – Visit the fort, see the beautiful architecture at Flagler College, or take a ghost tour!  Don’t worry, they are located on the beach too!

Gatlinburg and Sevierville, Tennessee – Since we live on the beach, we will often head north for spring break.  Gatlinburg offers lots of family friendly activities.  You can stay at the Wilderness at the Smokies, an indoor water park and hotel, visit the aquarium or take a drive through Cade’s Cove and look for deer.

New Orleans, Louisiana – New Orleans is one of my favorite cities in the United States.  You can visit the art museum, taste the beignets at Café du Monde, and walk up and down the Mississippi River.  There is a zoo and an aquarium that will keep the kids entertained and there are lots of free activities to keep you occupied!

Panama City Beach, Florida – Panama City Beach is not just for college kids!  There are lots of family activities including a visit to Pier Park, the Junior Museum and a few state parks.

Where are you headed for spring break?
