Idaho Ski Resorts want to teach you and your kids how to ski. Sometimes, Idaho resorts will throw in free lessons, free lift tickets and even some food to keep you going. Below are the deals and amenities that new skiers can find at the never-crowded ski resorts in Idaho.
Big Kids Ski Free:
To demonstrate its commitment to cultivating lifelong skiers, Idaho offers free skiing to 5th and 6th Graders. You don’t have to be an Idaho resident to take advantage of the Ski Idaho Fifth and Sixth Grade Passport Program. Fifth graders can ski or ride free three times and sixth graders can ski or ride free twice at participating areas. http://www.skiidaho.us/
Lookout Mountain: At Lookout Mountain, they have installed a new chair lift… on the beginners’ slope. Success (the name of the new triple chair) is where you learn to ski. Dollar Mountain at Sun Valley Resort has also expanded its Family Cross Course featuring S-Turns, Rollers and Table Tops. Kids: Challenge your parents. Parents: it’s on.

‘Start Me Up’ Beginner Package: Targhee’s best deal for learning to ski and snowboard. The Beginner Package includes 1 group lesson, a Shoshone lift ticket & full day rental package. Lessons are two hours long.

EZ Ski & Ride 1-2-3 (Ages 13+) $129
Making it EZ for first-timers! Package is intended for one person and includes 3 lift tickets for our beginner terrain, 3 ski or snowboard equipment rental packages, and 3 group lessons all at one incredibly low price. Not available during holiday periods.
The “Two of Us” $22
This ½ hour program is offered exclusively for a parent and child just learning to ski. The goal is to help both the adult and child to work together and enjoy the learning process resulting in the child using their own strength and not relying on mom or dad to hold them up. Additionally, we’ll show you some tips on using your poles to assist your child. You can come with your own harness and/or edgie wedgie.
Schweitzer, the Lake Tahoe of Idaho

Boise Skis Bogus Basin:
At Bogus Basin, Boise’s local ski resort, kids under 7 and adults over 70 ski free! Rentals are inexpensive and you can also lease your skis for the season for a song. There’s no reason not to do it!
