Insider Tip - Don't Plan on Driving in New York City: Between heavy traffic, aggressive drivers and costly parking, it's better to take public transportation, a taxi cab, or hire a car and driver. If you are driving to NYC, park the car and get a Metrocard, good for subways, buses and a ride on the Roosevelt Island tram. Kids ride free if they are shorter than 44 inches. Walking is often the fastest way between two points, so bring comfortable walking shoes. But this doesn’t mean you should show up at a 5 star restaurant or Broadway show in sneakers and a fanny pack.
