Over the years, we’ve been treated to movies featuring Dinosaurs, like Land Before Time, Ice Age and even Jurassic Park, and now prehistoric dinosaur-fans can take in the T.Rex Encounter, at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, from September 16, 2011 through January 8, 2012. Dinosaurs are huge, intimidating and intriguing to children and adults of all ages, but everyone has a special place in their hearts for these historic creatures.

T.Rex had the children at hello. My grandchildren couldn’t resist getting a close-up view of the life size T.Rex, and even moving up to meet its robotic eyes. When they tried to move away,  T.rex swings its head and snarls while its eyes followed their every move, thanks to the advanced robotics and cutting-edge face recognition technology.  My 6 year-old granddaughter thought it was “kind of scary” and my 4-year-old grandson giggled and said it was fun.  

The robotic dinosaurs, Triceratops and T.Rex, of course, are equipped with sensors, cameras and the characteristics of their biological ancestors, reacing to each other and visitors to create a lifelike dinosaur experience. A hungry raptor dinosaur even lets out a roar when large groups pass by. A stomping mother Triceratops stomps to guard her next of eggs.

The experiences at the T.Rex encounter continue, so make sure to plan a full day.  Here are 5 top things to see and do during the T.Rex Encounter:

1) Say hello to Sue, a replica of the most famous T.Rex, a skeleton cast at 42 feet long and 12 feet tall. Touch casts of her bones to understand her movements and how she used her senses.
2) Solve a mystery when you meet Sherlock Bones, Abercrombie Slate and Nelson Stone, museum characters that help you study, explore and encounter dinosaurs from Cretaceous.
3) Watch a video and discover how public perceptions of “Sue”  have evolved over time with new scientific discoveries.
4) See what a dinosaur sees when looking through the eyes of Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops
5) Take a photo with T.Rex and share it with your friends.
