There’s something delicious for everyone and every appetite at Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms, near Charleston, SC. During our visit, we ate breakfast at Sea Island Grill, dinner at The Lettered Olive (we learned on our trip that’s a kind of seashell), and had a basket of food delivered to us from Dunes Deli for dinner another night. There’s an ice cream parlor on the boardwalk to the beach. Essentially, there’s something for everyone and every appetite.

Wild Dunes Fun

It’s going to be tough to visit Isle of Palms and Wild Dunes without paying a visit to the beach. But there’s a lot more to do, too. You can golf, play tennis, rent bikes, swim in the heated pools or work out in the fitness center. I took in a tennis lesson while the rest of my family played a few matches on the court beside me.

My one hour lesson fixed problems I’d been working on for three years. Needless to say, I’m ready to get back and spend a weekend at the very minimum working on my game.

Wild Dunes Adventure 

My “don’t miss” at Wild Dunes is the sunset eco-adventure tour from the Isle of Palms Marina through Barrier Island Eco Tours. This is the kind of thing my kids will remember all their lives. We went out on a small boat with about six others and Shane, a guide who knows the waterways intimately. In just a few hours, my children learned all about the ecosystem of the Lowcountry environment. And they didn’t realize they were learning anything. They were glued to everything Shane had to say, from what size a turtle’s brain is to the “boneyard” found on Capers Island (which we got to get off the boat and walk around). If you have your kids with you at Wild Dunes, definitely carve out time for this trip.
