Wild Dunes--The Place to Stay in Charleston for Families

FamilyFun TravelingMom
If you're scheduling a visit to the Charleston, South Carolina, area, you may want to make Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms your home base.
charleston sun 068Charleston offers all kinds of fun for families who love to travel, and nearby Isle of Palms is home to an incredible resort that can offer your family a great base to go check out attractions all around the region. That resort is Wild Dunes. Maybe your family would prefer to just sit tight enjoying the beach? Wild Dunes is perfect for that, too, since it’s the kind of resort where you can spend days having fun without ever leaving the property. Wild Dunes was recently named one of the Top 10 Family Resorts on the Southeast Coast by Tots & Travel. It’s easy to see why. It features everything from state-of-the-art facilities for events (think really awesome family reunions, weddings, birthday or anniversary parties) to access to gear for active types who enjoy biking, kayaking, golf or tennis. You can rent an intimate hotel guest room or million dollar mansion. My family stayed in a penthouse at “The Village” and was blown away by its spaciousness and comfortable, classy décor. The kids knew we had lots of fun planned for them all around Charleston, but they would have been happy to never leave the resort. My family stayed at Wild Dunes in September, a great time of year if you want to avoid summer crowds and the intense heat (although it was unseasonably cold during our visit). Located just minutes from Charleston, this exclusive resort offers everything you can dream of, including spas, restaurants, shopping, a seasonal day camp for kids and lots of entertainment for adults. And, oh yeah, miles of beaches!

For rate information, the best place to go to get a quick range of prices is the site's booking engine. Just plug in the dates you are considering.

If you’re looking for special offers, there are several options for families, couples or girlfriend getaways. The Fall Seaside Savings runs through October and End of Year Cheer is wonderful for November and December stays.   There are some great videos showcasing the resort for the fall/holiday season, including Romance Awaits, Thanksgiving Traditions and Holiday Festivities Abound. Anyone interested in more Charleston specific packages should keep referencing the Charleston Events page, where upcoming special events and great Charleston area escapes offers are updated often.

Wild Dunes offers something for everyone, including yummy food for any appetite and adventure that will leave you more intelligent about the environment of the Low Country (and the kids will love this kind of learning!.  Read about that here.  And Charleston offers entertainment options for all ages, especially families.  You can read more about that in a future post.

(Note to readers: My family was invited by the Charleston Visitors' Bureau to be a guest at Wild Dunes and many of our expenses were covered.  I was not paid for the reviews and the opinions in these articles are my own.)
