Finding an activity that entertains everybody in the family can be difficult.  If you find yourself in Biloxi, Mississippi on your family travels, the Biloxi Shrimping Trip just might fit the bill!  The Biloxi Shrimping Trip is a 70 minute boat ride on the Mississippi Sound. 

This isn’t any ordinary boat ride though.  While you are cruising through the protected waters between Deer Island and the Biloxi shoreline, the crew will drop a sixteen foot trawl and drag the Mississippi Sound for about twenty minutes.  While the net is in the water, the crew members do an educational and very entertaining lesson on the history of Biloxi and shrimping.  They cater the information to fit the audience.  When they found out that we we lived in a neighboring Gulf Coast city, they compared the shrimp industry in the two areas.

Once the twenty minutes are up, the net is brought out of the water.  While the net is brought up, the birds appear out of nowhere because they know they might get a snack!  The net is dumped into a box on the boat and the crew will pick out the dangerous sea creatures, show them off and throw them back into the water.  They will show off the entire catch in the net and throw it back in the water, put it in the aquarium tank set up so you can view the sea life, or they throw it to the birds! 

A few things to know before you go:

You do not need to reserve your spot ahead of time but you will want to call 228-392-8645 for the daily departure times.  You can get departure times up to a week in advance.

You will need to arrive fifteen minutes before departure.

They do not accept credit or debit cards.

It is a large boat that holds many people!  We were lucky and practically had a private tour!  There were only a handful of people on our tour but I overheard them talking about a tour that morning that had over 40 people.  It may get crowded.

Ticket prices are as follows: Adults ages 12 and up $15; Children $10; Children 3 and under Free

Prepare your children so they know they won’t be doing the fishing!  My 6 year old son was so disappointed that he didn’t get to fish but, luckily, it did not ruin his day.
