This weekend our family had so much fun at Bellevue's Snowflake Lane and the Magic Season Ice Arena.  These events are part of Bellevue’s "Magic Season".  Even my teen and her friend had a good time, now that’s high praise.   


Snowflake Lane

After dinner at Paggliacci's, our favorite Bellevue Square pizza place, we headed out to the sidewalk in front of Macy's for the Snowflake Lane Parade, where every night at 7pm until December 24th the sidewalks of Bellevue Way in between Bellevue Square and Lincoln Square play host to parades of traditional "toy" drummers and winter characters.  Our favorite part was the three arctic drummers who ran through the crowds to take the stage outside of Macy's for a drum show complete with falling snow.  The sidewalks close to the street were pretty crowded, so we enjoyed being closer to Macy's, where we could see and hear everything, but weren't packed in like sardines.  The arctic drummer show was completely visible from there, and we could experience the falling snow and have pictures taken with the winter characters walking through the crowds.

Magic Season Ice Arena

After the snow and drum show, we walked through the mall to Bellevue Downtown Park for ice skating.   Enjoyable for the whole family (even teenagers) the Magic Season Ice Arena is open through January 8th.  Lace up your rented skates ($10), or bring your own for a reduced entrance fee ($7), and hit the ice to music from STAR 101.5 and Seattle's Greatest Hits 570 KVI.  There are even session times for stroller skating and free skating lessons (see schedule for details).  Your admission fee is good for the whole day, so spend some time there during the day and come back at night for maximum holiday fun.  Our evening was made complete with a stop for a warming cup of cocoa with extra whip cream at Tully's as we headed toward our car for home.
