If this winter has disappointed New Yorkers snow-wise, they can head to REI, which offers family friendly snowshoeing and cross country skiing classes north of the city. All the equipment (and hot chocolate) is provided.
The warm weather has led to the cancellation of this year’s Winter Jam, but you can still skate for free at Citi Pond in Bryant Park.
You fly down the tubing lanes (there are 30) on colorful inner tubes (provided) and get towed back up to the top; no schlepping back up the hill carrying 2 or 3 inner tubes.
Kids must be at least 42 inches tall AND at least 5 years old to go tubing at Mountain Creek, and children have to be accompanied by an adult.
