It seems like every city has a children's museum. But only one of them has The Children's Museum of Indianapolis.

It claims to be the largest in the world and my family considers it one of the best. The experience starts as you drive up and see the giant dinosaur that appears to have taken a bite out of the building. And it just gets better inside. The museum houses one of the largest displays of dinosaur fossils in the world, lots of interactive and educational exhibits and the soaring blown glass sculpture by famed artist Dale Chihuly that greets visitors just inside the door.

(We were visiting the week the Chihuly was being installed. My then 6-year-old daughter had become a fan when his amazing glass sculptures were on display at Chicago's Garfield Park Conservatory. Recognizing his work, she started to run toward it across the foyer. I gave chase and three security guards mobilized to intercept her--scaring the you-know-what out of her and leading to a hysterical crying jag in the museum. But even that traumatic experience was not enough to put her off her love of a good Chihuly.)

The newest exhibit at the museum is "The Power of Children: Making a Difference." It features kid heroes such as Anne Frank and Ryan White. The museum says they are "children whose lives teach us about overcoming obstacles to make a difference in the world."
