Think of Los Cabos as strictly a romantic travel destination for couples? Think again. With its near-perfect weather and breathtaking vistas of mountains and water, Cabo is a perfect family beach vacation spot with a wide variety of activities for kids of all ages.
Most resorts and hotels in the area offer organized camps specifically designed for kids, perfect for keeping kids busy with fun activities while mom and dad get a little R&R. The Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar Golf & Spa Resort in Los Cabos is undergoing an extensive expansion of their kids' Sheratoons program and kids only area that is scheduled to open in April 2012 making it a property to check out for families looking to book a vacation in sunny Los Cabos.
Family friendly activities in Cabo include:
Dolphin Discovery - Offers families the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with dolphins in a natural cove environment. Dolphin Discovery features a wide variety of packages, from their basic Dolphin Encounter to kayaking and swimming with dolphins.Water sports - From snorkeling to renting wave runners to banana boat rides (we saw kids doing this in December and it looked like they were having a blast), Cabo offers a wide variety of water sports activities for older kids.
Whale watching - Thousands of whales make their annual 6,000 mile migration from the summer feeding grounds of Alaska to the calving grounds of Cabo San Lucas. If you travel to Cabo San Lucas between December and March, you will likely spot a whale in the beautiful blue waters of the Sea of Cortez. Cabo offers several organized whale watching boat tours.
Turtle release programs - Cabo offers several organized turtle release programs which are a great educational experience for kids and lesson in wildlife conservation.
Zip lining - For thrill-seeking older kids and their moms and dads, local tour companies such as Cabo Adventures feature amazing zip line tours.
Horseback riding - Many local tour companies have organized 1 to 2-hour beach ride opportunities designed with younger riders in mind.
These are just a few of the activities available for families planning a spring break or summer vacation to Los Cabos.
