Walk around Istanbul long enough and you’ll find yourself seeing stars. That’s because the streets of Istanbul have been turned into an open-air museum, exhibiting hundreds of star-shaped sculptures for a project called “Stars of Istanbul”. The project, on display through November 30, is presented in association with UNICEF.
Following the street exhibition, the stars will be auctioned off and the proceeds used to provide nutrition, health care and education to the city’s needy children. My family and I came across a number of these stars on a recent visit to Istanbul, stopping to let the girls take a closer look and to pose for pictures. Of the many creative, brightly colored displays we saw, none delighted as much as the one with the image of the ultimate stars, Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley, painted on either side.

After the auction, the “Stars of Istanbul” will shine their light around the world as they tour international cities, including London and New York.
A number of Turkish and international companies have contributed to the project by adopting and decorating these stars, as have many artists and individuals. Some of the brands that have contributed include: Mini Cooper, Elle Magazine, Ford and Vodafone Turkey.

The agency will collect you from your hotel in the morning and you will be taken on a slow private boat cruise through the Golden Horn and along the Bosphorus. This is an amazing experience which enables you to take in the Ottoman architecture (including Topakapi Palace), the old city and the new city from a wonderful angle, and because the cruise begins at the Golden Horn you can view the entire peninsula and see Istanbul properly
