One of the most popular questions I get from my readers is where can I get good Costa Rican food? The answer is a soda! No, it's not a soda as in the kind you drink, but as in a local restaurant.
Here you will be guaranteed to get a wholesome, homemade meal that will fill you up and make you very happy. The most popular dish, ironically, is called Casado, which literally means 'married man'. Back in the olden days men came home everyday for lunch. A huge meal awaited them, prepared by their wives. To this day men come home to eat for lunch. Since I can't peak into their home lifestyles, I don't know if this is the dish they are getting. However, local sodas still preserve this tradition.
Casados, rock. That's really all there is to say about it:) The portions are staggering and filled with fresh ingredients. Even though the options are: Chicken, beef, fish or vegetarian, they all come the same sides:
- White Rice
- Beans
- Salad
- Plantains
- Potato Hash
- Tortilla
