Handicapped Access: Toy Story Mania

The design of the Toy Story Mania ride at Disneyland California Adventure allows for a more dignified wheelchair entrance.

467Disneyland has long been known for its disabled access. For the most part, Disney properties are fairly easy to navigate with a wheelchair. The one thing that we hate though as a family is when they have to stop the whole ride and it feels like every person in line is staring at our family boarding.

For that reason alone, I love the design of the Toy Story Mania boarding area in Disneyland California Adventure. By pulling the wheelchair roll on car onto a separate track they are able to take it out of the main traffic loop. This gives a wheelchair user a bit more privacy and time to make a more dignified entrance, if you will. Once loaded, the car is returned into the main track with minimal disruption to the ride. I wish all rides loaded this way for wheelchairs!

A little hint: If there are no other disabled riders, the cast members are very good about allowing you to ride multiple times!

Disclosure: Our family was hosted by Disneyland Resort for this trip. I received permission from the family in the video to tape their boarding experience. Mine was off in another part of the park at the time.
