A Multi-Generational Cruise Vacation

Traveling Mom
Cruises are a great option for multigenerational trips
cruise1There are few better options for a multi-family vacation than a cruise. There's always something to do, there's no need to pack and unpack to see more than one place and grumpy Grandpa can retire to the calm of his cabin when it all gets to be too much.

My family and I have sailed on several cruise ships, including Royal Caribbean (the sponsor of this post), and I have yet to find that one that doesn't work for families. If you're looking for a cruise, there are only two things to decide: Big or small? and where to?

For a multigenerational trip, even one that includes grumpy Grandpa, bigger is usually better. That's because bigger means more pools, more entertainment and more options overall. Unfortunately for Grandpa, it generally doesn't mean a bigger cabin. But solve that problem by scaling up to an outside cabin with a balcony if you think he'll be spending a lot of time there away from the madding crowds.

The where to? question is far less important. Every port has its benefits and drawbacks. I sometimes like to stay on board during port days so I can enjoy the ship while so many of my fellow passengers are exploring the land.

Whatever ship and itinerary you choose, chances are that once you've been on a family vacation cruise, you'll hear the ocean calling to you, just as the people in this Royal Caribbean advertisement do:
