Will you gain weight on a family cruise vacation?

A common question people have when thinking about taking a cruise vacation is regarding weight gain. Cruise Buzz offers some tips for avoiding gaining those extra pounds on a family cruise vacation.
swimmingAs a cruise expert I hear a lot of reasons why people love to cruise. I also hear why people have not taken a cruise. One of the biggest myths out there is that some people feel like they are going to "gain weight."

What I like to do is to remind people that weight is a direct result of ingesting more calories than one burns. The simple solution is to eat less, (not to eliminate or diet) and move more. Walks around the deck a few times a day coupled with taking the stairs is a good starting point.

On today's cruise ships there are numerous opportunities to choose healthy cuisine and to take advantage of the daily fitness programs.

Fresh influences, culinary trends and popular favorites inspire every menu aboard cruise lines. The quality and variety of offerings available range in caloric values, so if you move more and eat less calories the only extra pounds you bring home will be in your luggage from souvenirs.

My Best tip on a cruise ship...use the SMALLER sized "salad" plates rather than those oversized platters they give you as plates. The smaller ones are really more reasonable and you shouldn't need to refill after having a niced sized portion on a small plate. Buffets are TEMPTING! At dinner, try not to eat more than you might normally. Maybe one starter and a meal. Not three appetizers, a meal and two deserts, believe me this is your way to gaining 10lbs on a cruise! I've been there!!
