Get into Hundreds of Museums for Free on 9/24

TravelingMom with Teens
Museums across the country offer free admission as part of Museum Day on Sept. 24.

Museum_DayFree is the right price when it comes to traveling with kids. The more free things you can do on a family vacation, the better. On Sept. 24, 2011, the famously free Smithsonian Museum's Smithsonian Magazine is sponsoring Museum Day. Get two free tickets to one of hundreds of museums across the United States.

Click here to view the list of 2011 participating museums. You can view by address to see which museums near you are participating. Or, if you'll be traveling with your kids that weekend, go to the state-by-state drop down menu to see which museums at your destination have chosen to participate in Museum Day.

Please note: The free ticket doesn't guarantee you entry to the museum. If the venue reaches capacity, museum officials could turn you away or make you wait until the crowds thin a bit. So, once you print your free admission ticket, make plans to arrive early to ensure you get inside.

Now, for the fine print:

  • One ticket per household, for two people.
  • A ticket will gain entry to only one of the participating museums, excluding parking and special events and exhibits.
  • If the museum reaches capacity, museum has right to limit the number of guests until space becomes available.
