Time to Kill? Try a Day Stay!

sandiegosheratonHave you ever found yourself in an airport far away from home for hours on end with nothing to do?  Whether it's from a flight delay or a long layover, why waste your time in a new city at an airport?  Inquire at a local hotel to see if they have a day rate available for day guests!

Day guests passes are often available at airport-area hotels, and include a room for the day, access to all hotel amenities including pools, spas, and fitness centers.  In some cases, you'll also get transportation to and from the airport.  You can shower, swim, take a nap, work, or explore the city (without toting your bags)!

During a recent nine hour flight delay in San Diego, I did a day stay at the San Diego Sheraton Hotel and Marina, where my room had the gorgeous view pictured here.  It was a great way to enjoy the city (and the view) before heading back to snowy Boston!  I sat by the pool, got some work done, met up with a friend, took a nap, and had a great dinner - much better than just hanging out in the airport all day.

Not sure where to get started looking for a day stay?  If you are still at home, research local hotels and call to ask about day stay options.  Most hotels do not have information available on the website, but may still have day stays available.  If the person you are talking to doesn't have a clue what you are talking about, ask to speak to someone else.

If you are already at the airport, consider asking at the airport help desk.  Often that staff will have pamphlets and other information available.  Again, if the first person you talk to doesn't know what you are talking about, consider asking someone else.
