August is one of the most popular family vacation months of the year, but if you don't have anything planned - don't worry! You can save loads of money by traveling to some of the best family destinations off season. Not only will you save money, you'll also miss the crowds and have a much more enjoyable vacation.
Popular beach destinations like Fort Myers and Sanibel Islands, as well as Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, are still warm and sunny during the early fall months, but are much less crowded. You can get fabulous deals at hotels such as the White Elephant Hotel Residences and many of the Fort Myers/Sanibel hotels in the fall - often at hundreds of dollars off of peak rates. Walt Disney World also lowers prices during what they call the "value" season - special deals can even include a free dining plan.
On the flip side, other vacation destinations, like Phoenix, Arizona, offer great deals in the summer when the weather is hot. Although August can be very hot in Phoenix, if you plan to hang out by the pool and relax, it won't matter, and you can get amazing travel deals.
