TravelingMom with Teens

osborne_family_spectacleFew things say Christmas as well as a soaring evergreen tree bedazzled with lights and ornaments. These 4 cities know how to Christmas lights right. American Express Travel Specialists compiled this list of top destinations for Christmas light displays.

New York City: NYC originated the Christmas light trend in 1882 when Edward Johnson, a partner of Thomas Edison, designed lights for his Christmas tree in his Fifth Avenue Apartment.

Copenhagen, Denmark: Lights illuminate the Tivoli Gardens and Christmas market, which are designed by John Loring, the design director at Tiffany & Co.

Orlando, Florida: Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In 1986, Osborne Jennings covered his entire house in Orlando in Christmas lights for his youngest daughter, even buying the property next door to extend the display. After neighbors complained about the traffic jams, the Walt Disney Company offered a new venue for the display. Every year on New York Street at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, people ooh and aah over the millions of lights. The park even fills the air with “snow” to enhance the experience

Paris, France: Illuminated trees grace the famous Champs-Élysées, which is adorned with a more than 1 million energy-saving lights from the Arc de Triomphe to Place de la Concorde's Ferris wheel
