We love to go camping with our kids and try to go at least three or four times each fall. I am not a big fan of roughing it but I love a good car campsite near relatively clean showers and a bathroom. Here are a few things I've learned along the way.

1. When choosing a campsite there is a fine line between being close enough to the bathroom so that the middle of the night trip with a 4 year old is not a miserable hike and being too close to the bathroom so that you are constantly disturbed by all the other parents with the 4 year olds heading to the bathroom in the middle of the night!

2. Breakfast has never tasted better than it does when it is cooked over an open fire. We always try to make a big production out of our breakfast meal. Eggs, sausage, toast, pancakes and bacon all grace our breakfast table.

3. Book early! We used to book our campsites only a few days before we wanted to camp, but lately we have not been having much luck finding campsites that were available on short notice. Now, we make sure that book at least 2-3 weeks before we want to go camping.

4. Don’t forget a few comforts of home like the blanket or special stuffed animal. We spend as much time exploring the campsite and area but for down time back at the camp we always bring some coloring books, books to read, and a ball to throw or bounce around.
