A few weeks ago, I posted about using credit cards to obtain travel rewards.  In that post, I mentioned that if you aren't brand loyal, you should consider a credit card that offers more general rewards.  Personally, I use an American Express Rewards Plus Gold Card.  It isn't a perfect solution for everyone, but if you charge frequently, pay your balance off monthly, and want to accumulate points that you can use at a variety of places, it's a good option.The Rewards Plus Gold Card includes membership in the American Express Membership Rewards program.  You earn one point for every dollar charged, and with this card, you actually get two points for everyday purchases like groceries and food.  This card does require that you pay off your balance every month, and charges an annual fee.  In my opinion, it's good for people who charge almost all of their monthly expenses on the card, because that's the best way you'll earn enough rewards to more than cover the annual fee.Rewards accumulate, and can be used on airline tickets, hotel stays, and restaurant gift cards, as well as on a variety of products.  I usually save my rewards for gift cards, which my family then uses at restaurants.  But, the nice thing is that you can choose whatever works for you, and you won't have to worry about losing your rewards.Jodi Grundig reviews products for moms, babies, and children on Mom’s Favorite Stuff, and writes about her life at Multitasking Mommy.
