Saving on Your Summer Vacations

Finance TravelingMom
It's hard to believe that it's already Memorial Day weekend.  This weekend generally marks the beginning of summer BBQs, warm weather, and of course, long weekend getaways.  This summer, with the sad state of the economy, you may be thinking about skipping your usual summer vacations, but here are two websites you should check out before deciding against traveling this summer:

Priceline.com

Forget the William Shatner association for a moment.  Priceline.com still offers amazing prices on hotels, flights, and car rentals, if you are flexibile.  Although they do now also book travel the traditional way, the online "name your own price" system is the real dealfinder. Here's how it works - you set up an account, and then choose your selected desination and travel dates.  For rental cars, you can select the class of car, and for hotels, you can choose the star level.  Then, enter your selected price, and click go.  If your price is accepted, your credit card is immediately charged the nonrefundable rate.  You will see the full price, including tax, before you click go.Priceline.com is best for those who are certain of their travel places, as everything booked through the "name your own price" system is nonrefundable.  In addition, it's essential that you do research in advance, so that you know exactly what to bid.

Farecast.com

Booking airfare can be difficult, because rates change so frequently.  While many travel experts talk about what days and times to check prices, for the busy mom, this can be way too time consuming.  Farecast.com has a great solution.  It's free to use - just input your destination and flight dates, and Farecast looks up the lowest rates available, AND provides a forecast for whether the rates will increase or decrease in the coming days.  You can even set up alerts, so that you'll know when prices go down!  I used Farecast to book my BlogHer flights, and thanks to Farecast, I saved over $100!Do you have any websites you use to save money on traveling?  Leave a comment below.Jodi Grundig reviews products for moms, babies, and children on Mom’s Favorite Stuff, and writes about her life at Multitasking Mommy.
