Las Vegas for Us: Shows You'll Love

4JustUs TravelingMom

Par for the Curse Book Tour-Las Vegas (Mama & Me)They say “What happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas”, but that doesn’t apply to traveling moms on vacation. When traveling moms have a great time in Las Vegas we (sometimes) want to tell everyone about it. I’ve been to Las Vegas with my girlfriends, my husband, even my mom. Whether you are a Pentecostal or a Pagan, the city has something for you.  Famously named Sin City, there are plenty of naughty shows that require a valid ID and lace undergarments. However, Las Vegas also has delightful shows to enjoy that won’t land you at the altar on Sunday morning.

Despite Las Vegas marketing efforts, I don’t think it’s a family travel destination because of the street element. As you walk the streets you are handed flyers of naked women from escort services, Jello shots, and free admission to topless and nude reviews. Not something my boys need to see.  However, if you do decide to take the children to Las Vegas, there are family-friendly shows for you to enjoy.  My advice is to take a taxi.

The Blue Man Group at the Venetian (Great Show for Girlfriends Getaway, too)

It’s an exhilarating display of sights and sounds.  The name speaks for itself with three men painted in vibrant blue latex right down to their nostrils. They play music with a variety of “homemade” instruments (think Cap’n Crunch and wash pans) in accompaniment of a live band. They use “Benny Hill” like gestures with antics that will crack you up for the entire show. With all the lights and banging you better pay attention because the large screen display gives specific instruction for your participation. Pump your fists!

The Lion King at Mandalay Bay

Elvis is no longer “The King” of Las Vegas.  Traveling Moms know that Simba reigns supreme among little fans and you can catch the theatrical rendition of this popular Disney tale live at the Mandalay Bay. If you haven’t been able to score tickets on Broadway, have no fear because the Las Vegas tickets are more accessible and the show is just as good.  The make-up and costumes are amazing.  The life-size giraffe and elephant puppets give the feel of being in the African savannah. With sing-a-long favorites like “Hakuna Matata” and “Circle of Life” this show is a hit for all ages.

Hitzville the Show at Planet Hollywood (Great show for a lil' romance, too)

Motown in the desert! Hitzville is a finger popping, head bopping time. If you enjoy old school Motown favorites like Tina Turner, Gladys Knight, and Aretha you will love this show.  There are no famous names performing but the talent of Jin Jin Reeves is well deserving of your applause. You may even recognize her from some of the many guest appearances she’s had in our favorite shows like “The Fresh Prince” and “Friday”.  Don’t be shy because it’s okay to sing along.

If you are in the mood for comedy when the lights shine bright on the strip, check out George Wallace at the Flamingo or Wayne Brady headlining in “Making It Up” at the Venetian.  If the 10pm shows are passed your bedtime, head out for some daytime fun with The Price is Right, LIVE! at Bally’s. There’s something for everyone in Las Vegas and enough that you can go back again and again.  If you need to get away for a short vacation, Las Vegas is my one of my favorite choices for a three day getaway with girlfriends, your sweetheart, or even your mom.
