I am a total sucker for local fairs. Ever since I was a little girl, this is what we did! Then as I got older and was able to hang out with my friends and drive we kept the tradition alive for years all the until our senior year of high school. But as University years started it got completely dropped off the importance list and didn't get added until just a few years ago when my son was old enough to want to more fun stuff and we were lacking in ideas.

The great part, Central American countries are never short on local fairs. Especially Costa Rica. Since the majority of the towns in CR are tiny and like to be independent, you can find a fair practically every weekend.

One arrived to our little village. Since it takes a year and a day to get anything up and running, the allure made it that much more for my son. And it helped me use it as a great negotiating tool. Whenever he didn't want to do something, I'd immediately say: No Fair! And bam it was done.Finally the 6 kiddy rides, which it took the workers 3 weeks to get it up and running, was in full swing. So when they were finally done, the excitement in my son was hard to contain and we just had to take him.

Funnily enough, we seemed to be the only ones excited about this. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon to have the place to ourselves. It was so empty that the workers simply couldn't be bothered with us and stood around smoking cigarettes looking completely bored. Thank god my son is too young to understand this. I had to come over and be like, "Hello, you took my money, so that means you're open!"  Not that this prompted them to run over and assist us, but at least they did the honors of turning the ON switch. Yet it only took them like 15 minutes to turn it off. Do you want to go round and round for 15 minutes?

Overall, I do miss the local fairs and we now tend to go regularly.
