Travel Giveaway! If your kids are like mine, you’ll love today’s giveaway. One lucky Traveling Mom reader will win a copy of The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook: Junior Edition!

My kids have spent hours scouring the pages of Ripley’s, Guiness, and any other book that provides trivia or interesting facts. WCS Survival Handbook: Junior Edition definitely fits that bill.

How you can win:

This is the easy part. Just leave a comment giving us your best travel survival tip. What item is must-pack? What have you forgotten to pack and how did you get along without it? What’s your advice for surviving travel with a certain age group (this can be tinys, tweens, or even parents!)? Leave one comment and you’ll be entered. Leave more than one, and you’ll be disqualified.

Who is eligible:
Everyone! We’ll ship worldwide for this giveaway. You don’t have to be a blogger to win, just supply a valid e-mail address.

When the giveaway ends:

A packet of baby wipes taken in your carry on bag, great for big or small clean ups, wiping spilled food off of the kids clothes and just freshening up during a long flight.

Leave the kid at home… Honestly, the best tip is to memorize a ton of stories so you can tell stories the whole trip. Bring lots of candy so you can bribe good behavior… We posted about this at Winning Readings: http://winningreadings.blogspot.com/2009/10/worst-case-scenario-survival-handbook.html janemaritz at yahoo dot com

Pack plenty of snacks, coloring/activity books, audio books, water & wet wipes. We have 3 daughters & most of our family is about 3-5 hrs north of us. So we tend to travel alot especially during the holiday season. My middle daughter would love this great giveaway! Thank you!

We travel frequently with our 4 grandchildren ages 11 – 4. I have found packing their breakfast or lunch, easy finger foods having each thing in a individual baggie not only is a treat to them, saves money, and makes eating easier.

Get a portable DVD player to put in your car – keeps the little ones quiet for hours! pbclark(at)netins(dot)net

Always pack your cell phone and credit card. With money and a phone anything can be dealt with! The rest is just gravy. :o )

Always store extra diapers in your car no matter how short the trip. We were on a four hour trek home,,got in an accident & got stranded out in the middle of nowhere for two days…not fun. I also recommend food, water, books – just be prepared for anything – you never know :)

My best travel survival tip is my “bottomless” travel purse – full of survival items like a small sewing kit, a small first-aid kit, some snacks and juice boxes, a few paperback books, a few travel games, etc.

A Swiss pocket knife. It’s a MacGyver kind of thing, but it is really useful!

My best tip is to always bring a roll of toilet paper. It’s the one thing no one wants to be cought without.

We bring a small white board the size of a notebook that kids can doodle on, play games (e.g. tick tack toe, hang man, etc.) and erase and repeat for hours.

The most important thing we bring along isn’t tangible…it’s patience and understanding. Not everything will go according to script when traveling with the kiddos…we keep an open mind when we’re on the road – if there’s a cute little pit-stop shop, or train depot (our 4yo son LOVES trains) or greasy spoon that looks delicious, we’ll stop. Plans are meant to be bent, not broken – so, as long as you’re patient and understand that your itinerary can be fluid, the memories will be that much sweeter! Safe travels everyone!

Some good reading materials – Let the kids pick out a good book and let them buy a new magazine that they don’t normally read. Helps with airport delays and long car drives., Throw in a puzzle book or two – mad libs, soduko, etc

Oh, I forgot to answer the question. I always pack bandaids. One time I was at the airport and my finger started bleeding A LOT and I was trying to wrap it up with something but at that point bandaids where just what I would have needed.
