Located in northern Arizona, Flagstaff lies along the western side of the largest contiguous Ponderosa Pine forest in the Continental United States. Flagstaff was named for a Ponderosa Pine flagpole made by a scouting party from Boston in celebration of America’s Centennial on July 4, 1876. These two free things to do will help you have an affordable family vacation.

Northern Arizona is known for such national treasures as The Grand Canyon and the Painted Desert that make it a great spot for an affordable family vacation. The small community of Williams, which offers several free family vacation activities, lies on historic Route 66 and the Southwest Chief Amtrak train route.
